About Weber State University

Weber State University, also known as simply Weber, is a public university located in the city of Ogden, which is the county seat of Weber County, and has a population estimated at a number of more than 82 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census. Ogden is also the principal city of the Ogden–Clearfield, Utah Metropolitan Statistical Area, which contains all of Weber, Morgan, and Davis counties.

Weber State University was founded in 1889 by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, first starting as Weber Stake Academy, the institution adopting its current name and gaining university status on January 1, 1991. Today, Weber has an enrollment of approximately 23 000 students and offers professional, liberal arts and technical certificates, as well as associate, bachelor's and master's degrees in various fields of study, including in science, humanities, business and economics, education and criminal justice.

Athletics

Weber's athletic teams are known as the Wildcats, who compete in NCAA Division I (Football Championship Subdivision for football) in the Big Sky Conference, in 15 sports. WSU Men's basketball team has the 24th highest winning percentage in NCAA Division I history, and it is also one of the most popular sports at the university. The Wildcats' distinctive colors are purple and white.
